This always-popular growing restaurant chain makes a tasty version of creamy ranch dressing for its house and Queensland salads. To get the same unique flavor and creaminess of the original at home, mates, you'll need one teaspoon of Hidden Valley Ranch instant salad dressing mix swimming in there with the mayo and buttermilk and other spices. Since there's three teaspoons of dressing mix per packet, you'll now be able to make three batches of dressing with one envelope of dressing mix.

1 teaspoon Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix (buttermilk recipe)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 teaspoon coarse grind black pepper
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Mix well.

2. Cover bowl and chill dressing for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Makes 1 1/2 cups.

Tidbits: Make sure you are using the Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix that says "Buttermilk Recipe." It's the one that comes in 0.4 ounce packets. Any other mix won't work as well for this clone.

This recipe is "right-on". I always double the recipe to always have some on hand... great for veggie dipping too... we don't buy Ranch dressing from stores anymore.

I am in love with salads again. This recipe is dead on to the Outback dressing. I love it with a salad or just veggie snacks. Thanks!

SO much better than Outbacks!! I substitute the red pepper for for the paprika and it makes all the difference.. Unfortunately our days of store bought and low fat salad dressings are WAY behind us!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This dressing at the Outback absolutely ruined our taste for any other ranch dressing. Finally, we can make it (and have done) and have it whenever we want....which is LOTS!

I have used this recipe several times when I have guests for dinner and I have never had a problem with it as long as I use the right dressing mix and don't taste it until it sits in the fridge for the full 30 minutes. If you taste it as you're making it, it won't taste right. But I have to be honest, I use this recipe, like I use any other, as a jumping off point. I can customize it until it tastes the way I want it to. I've used thyme and even rosemary in this to make a "secret" recipe that people beg me for.

I LOVE this recipe but when I first made it, it was to "blah" I also added a pinch of red pepper (to taste) thena little extra garlic powder. I also used the entire thing of butter milk dressing mix as well as Dukes brand mayo. This makes more at one time, and it GREAT!!

When I first tried this recipe, I wasn't completely in love with it. It was better than any other out there but was a little bit sweeter than the restaurant. I read the comment from the former employee and started substituting the red pepper for paprika and now it is a staple in my kitchen...an exact replica.

Incredible! Like others here, I've been searching for this ranch for years! Hidden Halley Ranch "Spicy Ranch" doesn't even compare. This is my favorite recipe on the site! Follow the directions step by step and you won't be disapointed.

Wow! Have you made my son happy - he is addicted to Outback's Ranch Dressing and we have tried to buy something that would come close. Do I need to say how much we've spent trying to find it? This dressing is outstanding . . . my son is happy and we will never buy store bought dressing again. Deserves to be 20 stars if possible.

I have so many jars of ranch dip in my pantry and could never match the ranch for Outback's cheese fries. I tried this, we LOVED it. I now have space in my pantry again.

This is good, but as a former employee, I can tell you that substituting a pinch of ground red pepper for the paprika makes it taste 100% authentic.
