Watching his wife can tomatoes inspired Natalie Olivieri in the early 1920s to create a bottled chocolate drink with a long shelf life. When New York Yankee great Yogi Berra later met Natale and tasted his drink, he was an instant fan, and went on to help raise the funds that helped make Yoo-hoo a national success.

I cloned this drink in the first book, Top Secret Recipes, but have since discovered an improved technique. Using a blender to mix the drink, as instructed in that first recipe, adds too much unnecessary foam. So here now is a revised recipe that you shake to mix.

3/4 cup nonfat dry milk
3 tablespoons Nesquik chocolate drink mix
1 1/2 cups cold water

Combine all ingredients in a container or jar with a lid. Shake until dry milk is dissolved. Drink I'mmediately or chill in your refrigerator.

Makes one 14-ounce drink.

try using almost flat seltzer or club soda instead of the water, Nesquik POWDER & either Powdered Milk or Non dairy creamer. Combine all in a blender until smooth, refrigerate for an hour or two before drinking.

I admit, I'm a 13 year old and love to cook. I remembered drinking Yoohoos with my friends when i was just about 4 or 5. My mom or dad never buys these so when I saw this recipe I was stunned. I quickly went to get supplies, I was kind of disappointed after I made this drink. First, I don't think Yoohoos contain milk/dairy (well I'm quite positive), but this is a clone so yes, i understand that. But it tasted kind of odd, basically like chocolate milk. It's not milk, it's a chocolate DRINK! :) I still may try it and let it sit over night as some say it makes it taste better. Anyway, still a good recipe, and I am about to go expiriment with it some more! Thanks!

My dad first made this and we drank it right away and it was okay, but we let it sit over night and it tasted authentic yoo-hoo drink straight from the bottle!

I tried this recipe but I used a blender to mix it up and let it chill for a hour. It tasted just like the real thing my kids loved it.

I tried it and was disgusted as well. I decided to try again, and this time I added 1/2 tbs of vanilla extract, and a packet of sweet and low...low and behold it was much better than a normal yoo hoo!

This was awful. Thought I might have made a mistake the first time so I made it again. It was still awful.

You people should all be ashamed of yourselves for thinking that it was that easy. First of all Yoohoo doesn't contain milk! That's why it's called the "Chocolate Drink," and not the "Chocolate Milk." It's mostly water, corn syrup and dairy whey! And secondly you're gonna use Nesquick? That's just plain craziness.

This one is a miss. All I could taste was scalded dry milk. It wasn't smooth and creamy like real Yoo-hoo.

Instead of the powdered milk I used homemade Soy Milk. We are vegan but use to love yoo hoo... this really made it taste great... I give this recipe a 5 using soy milk instead

I agree with Angela. The dry milk taste is overwhelming. I do, however, disagree that it was a "Good try though". This wasn't even close to what a real Yoo-hoo tastes like. I should know. I drink about two six-packs a week.

I think this recipe is the greatest! I don't usually drink milk and this is a wonderful way to get milk into my diet. It tastes just like the real thing.

Tastes more like dry milk, which has an awful taste. I don't taste dry milk in yoo-hoo's. I think if there is another form of milk it would taste better. Dry milk just has a weird taste that does not disappear with any kind of chocholate I have tried nor if I add more water. Good try though!
