In the late eighties, as the public's concern about eating beef was growing, the restaurant industry saw a big shift toward chicken meals. In the midst of a poultry-crazy country, that last thing you'd expect anyone to do is open a steakhouse. But that's exactly what the gang who founded Outback Steakhouse did. And by the time their restaurant had become the sixth largest dinnerhouse chain in the country, they had proven what many people still want is a big honkin' slab of beef.

With a menu dominated by beef items, it's nice to find that the restaurant can do great things with chicken meals as well, such as the Alice Springs Chicken. You'll love the mushrooms, bacon, cheese, and honey mustard piled on a chicken breast that's been grilled on the "barbie."

Absolutely love this recipe! When baking, I put each breast on non stick foil and make the sides stand up to keep the toppings in place, works great every time! Yum

Since the first time this recipe was released. My family LOVES this! I sauté the mushrooms in some of the bacon grease and I use portabellas. Crumbling the bacon keeps you from losing all your toppings when you cut it. We always make extra honey mustard!

Absolutely delicious. My kids especially loved it. The sauce is very forgiving, so you can modify it however you like. Definitely add mayonnaise; I also threw in a splash of hickory BBQ sauce which gave it a nice smokiness. I crumbled the bacon and used baby portabella mushrooms. This is a keeper, I'll make this recipe again and again!

I have a family of nine so when I say I spend half my life cooking that's probably being reserved. Made this recipe last night and everyone devoured it. Honestly I can say this is the best chicken ever!!! I want it again tonight! Thanks to my BFF for sending me this link and sharing something her family loves.

I chopped up the chicken and marinaded it as directed. Cooked the bacon and sauteed the mushrooms. Then I Iayered everything in a 9×14 dish and topped with cheese. Baked it to make sure everything was hot and melted (everything was cooked through so just had to heat it up). There are 7 people in our family and everyone loved it!

I make this just like the recipe and my family loves it. I always make extra honey mustard sauce to add at the table. The topping does fall off, but we love it and never complain!!!

This was a great recipe, I'm a honey mustard fan so instead of 1/2 cup honey I just did 1/4 and it turned out perfect!!!

I made this recipe used "kraft honey mustard dressing" honey dijon seasoning to replace the other sauce ingredients. I skipped the mushrooms and parsley and marinating. I cooked the chicken in the sauce and chicken broth to keep it moist precooked the bacon and added it on top with mexican blend cheese. Everyone loved it!
Sauce is perfect!

I cooked my bacon in a pan then seared my chicken in the bacon grease instead of oil. Lots more flavor. My kids love this.

I understand this is meant to replicate the Outback recipe, However, I couldn't in good conscience make this exact version. I use Canadian bacon in place of bacon and use half the cheese called for and sprinkle with a little fresh Parmesan too. I don't mind the sauce buy I smoothed a little out with some greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. I thought it was delicious.

This is one dinner the entire family loves! My only challenge is the topping completely sliding off the chicken breast while eating. Doesn't seem to bother anyone just thought someone might have a tip to share.

Just made this for my huge family, so I had to double it! And it was lovely! I did add mayo to the remaining sauce after marinating like some suggested and it mad it better because it was a lil too much Dijon taste at first!!! Will make many more times!

So tasty and easy to make. I did add a cup of mayo to the marinade. And seared the chicken before baking. My boys enjoyed it so much that the 13 year old already put a request in for me to serve it at his birthday party in January. A family favorite.

This was DELICIOUS. Definitely add the mayo and you'll probably want to double the marinade recipe. Grilling the chicken is a much better idea but it still tastes amazing if you bake. I will absolutely make this again! My whole family and friends who have tried it loved it. 5 stars!

This was like being at the Outback. I also grilled and finished off in the oven. The only thing I changed was I added a half cup of mayo to the Honey Mustard Sauce. My family loved it.

I marinated it like the recipe then grilled the chicken. Then I put it in a dish with the cheese and bacon and finished in the oven. Since I put in oven for 7 minutes I took a few minutes off the grill time so it wouldn't be overdone.

Cooked it with chicken thighs and grilled it instead of searing - it was super juicy and less oily than the original. Great flavours and super easy to make, even for a novice like me! Only difficulty was trying to get the timing right for the oven grill. I served with grilled veggies.

Actually it is very close. I heard from an Outback employee that the honey mustard sauce they use actually has mayo in it. Try it with a cup of mayo stirred in. Ummm

The first time I made his I pan seared the chicken like the recipe says and it was amazing. The second time I grilled like Jason recommended and POP it was even more amazing with plenty of compliments.

I hate to admit that since I have found this recipe, I make it at home now and order other specialties at Outback. I have found this recipe to be "on the mark" with the original Outback recipe. I will keep it in my recipe archive for future meal ideas. Love It!!!

As a former employee of outback, the proper way to prepare this is to grill the chicken, not bake it. Then melt the cheese on the chicken with the grill on low. Guaranteed it tastes better.
