When it comes time once again to research some jazzy cocktails for the warm-weather fiestas on the horizon, I scour the featured drink menus at the big chains. This time I found myself downing the new drink creations at America's largest Italian grub chain and got turned on to these two awesome featured martinis. Malibus great mango-flavored rum is the star in the Mango Martini, along with a little Kerns mango nectar. It goes down much too fast. Then there's the stronger Pomegranate Margarita Martini. If you're a tequila lover, this is your baby. Its mixed with Patron Silver tequila and Patrons 80-proof Citronge orange liqueur. You'll also want to track down some real grenadine syrup that is made with pomegranate juice. Stirrings makes the one I used. You can also used pure pomegranate juice, such as the stuff made by Pom Wonderful, but you'll also have to add a little simple syrup to sweeten the drink since pomegranate juice on its own is pretty sour. Each of these drinks is served straight up in a large martini glass, but you can certainly add ice to the drinks and pop 'em into a poolside tumbler, complete with bendy straw. |
