Menu Description: “A creamy soup made with roasted chicken, traditional Italian dumplings and spinach.”

It’s hard to find pre-made gnocchi that is as good as the stuff Olive Garden uses in their hit soup. The gnocchi are perfectly tender and seasoned with a bit of nutmeg. But making gnocchi at home from scratch doesn’t have to be hard. In this secret recipe for gnocchi made the Olive Garden way I found it best to use instant mashed potatoes. This way I could not only save time but also be certain that the gnocchi would turn out exactly the same with each batch. Once you make the gnocchi and form each chunk of dough into small disks, you can start on the soup. For the chicken, just grab a roasted chicken in your supermarket. Take off the skin, then remove the meat and chop it up before adding it to the soup. When the soup simmers until thick you will have 8 1-cup servings of a soup that tastes exactly like the new Olive Garden top menu choice.

What a wonderful recipe. I made it exactly as it said and my gnocchi came out awesome! My family wants it once a week now. When you're here, you're FAMILY! just like Olive Garden says!

I used prepackaged gnocchi and mine was very good. I will make them from scratch next time. I already had the prepackaged ones. This is a excellent recipe and a must try.

I used prepackaged gnocchi so mine didn't taste exactly like Olive Garden's Chicken and Gnocchi but it was very close. Had I made the the gnocchi myself it probably would have been better.

This soup is just fantastic and tastes exactly like the one at Olive Garden if not better. Because we were crunched for time I used prepackaged gnocchi which were good but I am sure homemade would have been better. Still the soup was fabulous! Thank you so very much Todd!!!
Better than the Original

I know it's been mentioned that there is something special about the original but I'm here to say that I've put them side by side and Todd's is BETTER! I was a huge fan of the original and it's this clone recipe that started my purchase of the Top Secret books (best money I've ever spent!). We've made this recipe more than 10 times now and we just can't get enough.

This is a great soup! This has become a family favorite we love to have on a cold day! The gnocchis made from instant potatoes are so much better than anything you can buy in the store.

Very Good - I thickened the leftover a bit more and served as a stew.

My boyfriend and I eat at olive garden a lot and we come for this soup! So we were super stoked to make this and as were sitting here enjoying our soup we decided it was really good but not EXACTLY like the real thing...something is still special about olive garden's! Good try though =)

It almost looked too good to eat! We did not care at all for the gnocchi made with instant potatoes. Although I did go off the board and use a cheese flavored instant potato instead of the regular.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I submitted a request for you to clone this recipe some time ago and have been waiting for it to come up. This is really great! I tried it today and WOW! Can't wait to invite some people over and bring it out with some good french bread

The recipe is simple. The gnocchis take a little time to make. I made near 100 with the recipe. Your pot of soup will not last long. Once your guests get a taste Watch the pot empty. Enjoy!!!!
