If you like Big Macs, its probably because of that tasty "secret" spread that is plopped onto both decks of the world's most popular double-decker hamburger. So what's so special about this sauce? After all, its basically just thousand island dressing, right? Pretty much. But this sauce has a bit more sweet pickle relish in it than a typical thousand island salad slather. Also, I found that this clone comes close to the original with the inclusion of French dressing. It's an important ingredient - ketchup just wont do it. That, along with a sweet and sour flavor that comes from vinegar and sugar, makes this sauce go well on any of your home burger creations, whether they're Big Mac clones or not. This is the closest "special sauce" clone you'll find anywhere.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons French dressing
4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt

1. Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir well.

2. Place sauce in a covered container and refrigerate for several hours, or overnight, so that the flavors blend. Stir the sauce a couple of times as it chills.

Makes about 3/4 cup.

I added a 1/2 a TBSP more White onion, one TSP of Ketchup and one tsp more Sweet Pickled Relish! Felt that made it perfect! Went to McDonalds & bought a Big mac and asked for more Special sauce on it! Compared it to this recipe, plus what i added, made it just like McDonalds Special sauce! Thanks!!

It's so good: when I first told my husband I was going to make this he was extremely skeptical. He is now begging me to make more! It's really good very close to the real deal.

I'm not a big fan of "eating out" but would get a Big Mac because I loved the "special sauce". Now I can have the sauce without eating out - your recipe tasted EXACTLY like McDonalds Sauce. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

Its a very good recipe. My wife cooked me a clone big Mac using this recipe, and it was perfect. Better than Mcdonalds, I know who is touching my food.

I couldn't tell when I tasted it alone. It basically tasted like a sweeter version of Thousand Island. Once I put it on my Big Mac clone, it really convinced me. It tasted just like the special sauce. Good job.

used this for a few years and misplaced my original copy. Glad to find it again...especially good on portobello mushroom burgers...use the mushroom as the burger(grill w/steak sauce and seasoning in the cap)

It's good! but it can be better. Instead of using fresh onion, use dehydrated onion and rehydrate it in warm water. Turns a nine into a ten!! Enjoy.

I have been using this for years. It does taste like the real thing. Although it tastes good on any burger, I buy the cheap, cheap frozen patties. Great for a bunch of hungry teens! and the adults like it too.
