Carrabba's Spicy Sausage Lentil Soup

It's not served every day at Carrabba's Italian Grill, but when this amazing soup is on the menu consider yourself lucky and snag a bowl. It's chock-full of lentils and other good bits of vegetables and herbs, plus there are big chunks of spicy Italian sausage in every bite. Best of all, it's a cinch to clone. Most of the work here is just chopping stuff up, including a small ham steak which you can find where the bacon is sold in your market. If you can't find a ham steak, you can slice up some deli ham. Get everything in a pot and let it simmer. In 1 hour you'll have enough hot, chunky soup for at least a dozen cup-size servings.

This is as good, if not better, than the Carabbas recipe. I substituted pancetta for the ham. That is the only change I made. My husband was excited that I could recreate his favorite soup. All of my co-workers want the recipe.

Couldn't believe how tasty and good this soup turned out. I've been trying to duplicate the taste of Carrabba's lentil soup on my own and couldn't get all the flavors but this is even better. My husband and I loved it! My new winter soup.

I've never been to Carrabba's, but based on the great reviews, I tried it. We love it!! It's my 15 year old son's favorite soup. And he doesn't usually praise meals that highly! I didn't alter the recipe at all, and it's wonderful.

Made this Sunday night (never had it at Carrabbas) and it was sooooo good. Like Beth, I think the salt could be omitted and I used low sodium ham and chicken broth instead of vegetable broth. Used chicken Andoulle sausage and red lentils. Cooked in no time and it was so tasty and easy. Will make it again and again.

I was lucky enough to make this soup before trying it at Carrabbas. This version matched the taste at Carrabbas. I've made it a number of times and have removed the added salt, but did add more sausage, ham and garlic. With a crusty bread and a salad this has made a wonderful meal more than once.

This soup is actually better than what's served at our local Carrabba's. We were able to alter the spiciness and the saltiness to our taste (=less of each) and it's a much better soup. Highly recommended.

I have never been a fan of soups, but I decided to try this one. It was delicious. I used the hot turkey italian sausage to make it lighter. It was still great!!!

This was a simple and very (if not exact)replica of the soup that me and my wife loved so much..we doubled the ingredents so we could put some in the deep freezer it was awsome..

This recipe is awesome!!!...I loved it!!! For me it didn't taste like Carrabba's soup, however, it's really hearthy and full of flavor!!! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this soup to all of you!!!

Good soup. I've never had the original, but love soups. I didn't have fresh spices, but used dried and it was still very good. I could only get the mild sausage, but added extra red pepper to taste. Thanks for the great recipe!

This was fabulous! This is my family's favorite soup at Carrabas, and this soup is a great clone. I would recommend this recipe to anyone who likes lentil soup, and I love that you can alter the red pepper to make it as spicy (or not) as you like.

I have never eaten at Carabba's but this looked like a great soup. And indeed it was. I left out the ham, and used veggie broth instead of chicken broth, and added extra red pepper flakes for more heat. It was amazing. No matter what the cook at Carabba's thinks, this is a great soup. Restaurant soups are always disappointing and there was nothing disappointing about this clone! Thanks.

This was sooo tasty!!! I've made it twice this week. The second time I added another sausage link (we like it a bit spicier) and went with half chicken broth and half water (because I didn't want to waste chicken broth) and got rave reviews from everyone including my husband who made a point twice to say how good it was (high compliments indeed!) I made this last night and even my fussy teenager loved about it! It's spicy, but on a cold Minnesota night, it'll keep you warm! Make sure that you have rolls or bread with it, it'll help with the hotness of the spices.

This is an item we order every time we go to Carrabbas, and this recipe far exceeds their soup. It is thicker and heartier and it tastes better on the second and third day after making it. The hot Italian sausage I buy is really hot, so I eliminated the red pepper flakes and it was just right, and I used a 14 oz can of diced drained tomatoes too. This will be a regular at our dinner table, and with the price Carrabbas charges, it is truly a cheap meal and oh so delicious!!! Thanks Todd

This was just outstanding. I used mild bulk Italian sausage instead of messing with the casings (I used Johnsonville brand, but I know Owens makes bulk Italian sausage, too). I also went to the deli counter at my supermarket and had them slice me one piece of smoked ham on the medium setting on the slicer. When I got home, I diced it as per the instructions. Had a small amount of leftovers because it makes a lot of soup, and it's fantastic the next day. Thanks for a great recipe.

Outstanding once again, this is a spicy soup, perhaps if you want to eliminate some of the heat eliminate crushed red pepper. but it is outstanding the way it is!!!!! Keep up the good work!

I haven't tasted this soup at the restaurant, but it sounded good. It is delicious! (tasted it before the cooking time was up ) I didn't have fresh basil, so I put in a big spoonful of pesto instead. Thank you.

Never had the original but this soup is good! Perfect for winter time soup & salad type meal. It do got a kick! It's hearty & stew-like. It's awsome. Definitely a keeper.

I work at Carrabbas and make this soup all the time. This is not their recipe. They do not use ham, they use pancetta for one thing.
